Two rounds will be played over each of the Old and the New Courses, with a cut after 36 holes. The courses are situated on heathland that lies less than 20 miles from London. Both courses are over 7000 yards long and are ranked among the finest in the British Isles.

They have hosted the 1981 Ryder Cup, five European Opens and in 2005 they will host the European Qualifying Round of the United States Open Championship. Many leading amateur events have also been played there including four English Amateur Championships and the British Mid - Amateur Championship.
